PRAGMATIC FUNCTIONS OF HEADLINES IN ONLINE NEWS PORTALS

This article analyzes the pragmatic functions of headlines in online news portals using examples from English and Uzbek media resources. The study examines the informative, manipulative, persuasive, and attention-grabbing features of headlines. The impact of headlines on the reader’s speech activity in digital discourse, the phenomenon of “clickbait,” and scientific analyses based on Speech Act Theory are presented. The paper concludes with findings on enhancing the pragmatic potential of headlines in the digital media environment.
